The Phantom is a cartoon rendered by Lee Falk (after the American original The Phantom). The title character is a knitted law enforcement officer living in a fictitious African country named Bengali and thought immortal-but this ignores the fact that the fantasy role has been played from dad to son since the 16th century.
Since the 1960s, the series has been produced in lively Swedish licences and exported to other Nordic countries, including Australia, Brazil, Spain, and India.
The US daily press has been under influence from Scandinavia, too, since Lee Falk’s death. The series Fantomen is available in long sections in magazines, Swedish in Fantomen magazine, and in belt format.
